D’abord élève de Gian Battista Gaulli, dit le Baciccio, Bianchi rejoindra par la suite l’atelier de Benedetto Luti, devenant bientôt son élève favori. Profondément marqué par ses enseignements de dessinateur et de coloriste, Bianchi développera un style particulièrement vibrant, comme en témoigne cette étude récemment attribuée. Elle est à rapprocher d’un tableau du même sujet passé en vente chez Christie’s (fig. 1 ; Londres, 24 mai 2007, lot 141). Cette oeuvre se distingue dans le corpus de l’artiste par son ambition et son niveau de finition.

A pupil of Gian Battista Gaulli, il Baciccio, Bianchi joined later the workshop of Benedetto Luti, soon becoming his favourite pupil. Deeply indebted to Luti’s teaching as a draftsman and colourist, Bianchi developed a distinctively vibrant style, as shown in this newly attributed study for a painting of the same subject (Fig. 1; Christie’s, London, 24 May 2007, lot 141). This work stands out in the artist’s corpus for its ambition and level of finish.
