1852 Humbert $10
Post Lot Text
Die notes: Obverse from the identical die as foregoing. Reverse from a new die cut in 1852 with "perfect" 1852 date; date numerals from different punches than used for 1852 1 (either the 1851 date or the added 2). Reeded edge. On this and other dies it is evident than K,ner was no Longacre, as the alignment of his letters, numerals, etc., is naove or rustic (of course, numismatically, the more rustic the better!). Die state: Obverse with many cracks and evidence of rust (from the fog or miasma which then and now hovers over San Francisco and often is not cut until late morning). PCGS Data: This is the finest of 63 examples from the S.S. Central America treasure certified by PCGS. In fact, this is the finest example of this variety certified by PCGS regardless of source.
