Written in French, the letter includes in translation, "The consequences of the annexation to Egypt of the regions of Central Africa and the setting up, in the midst of savage tribes, of a government and of a regular order of things cannot fail by the results which will flow from it to be appreciated by the whole of Europe and earn for you as well as for my government lasting honour. It is to this end, my dear Pacha, that I have given you absolute power over the peoples that inhabit the countries beyond Gondokoro.
