With a belief in the merits of the small, efficient engine, Emile Mathis was an early member of the French motor industry who consistently built a sound reputation for his Strasbourg-based factory on tiny-engined but excellent and fully fitted-out four-cylinder cars. In the early 1920s the company took fourth place in the French motor industry with a prolific range running from an 800cc side-valve four, to 4.4 litre sleeve valved machines with pretensions to luxury. For the more middle-class customer who did not want a Renault, Peugeot or Citroen, Mathis offered an attractive value for money alternative - always with four speeds and an impressive top gear speed range by courtesy of exceptionally low rear axle ratios.
This Mathis coach has been in the collection for some years and will need servicing and attention before use. The coach is Swiss registered.
