Throughout his career, Vincenzo Lancia loved cars and loved driving fast. As chief FIAT tester and competition driver early in the century, he was very successful. In 1910 he retired from racing to concentrate on the development of his own company, established in Turin. As might be expected for a motor tycoon with his factory on the Italian plains and a home at Fobello, high in the mountains to the North, his products were universally possessed of superb handling and cornering power. Lancia's automobiles were also technically advanced. His revolutionary 1922 Lamdba sported an ingenious narrow-vee engine, unitary body construction and unique independent suspension. It was followed by the imposing Dilambda, with a compact narrow vee-eight engine, and the famous Lancia sliding-pillar front suspension. There was a fairly conventional steel chassis and the car was available in two wheelbases. The new Farina body shop shaped numbers of Dilambdas and a luminous career was launched. The sleek four-door convertible coachwork with its low waistline on this well presented Dilamdba has a number of points of interest : the period semaphore direction arms on the screen pillars, the unusual and correct Lancia headlamps with Bosch lenses are a considerable rarity. This Lancia Open Tourer will be an enjoyable family touring car. It has been in the collection for a number of years so requires some general servicing before regular use. The car is Swiss registered.
