1933 was a highlight year for the Ford V8s; they were solid, dependable and pretty cars. The Cabriolet models featured a rumble seat and neatly fitting convertible top and were often mistaken for the roadsters, although they had roll-up windows and a windshield and dashboard treatment similar to the closed cars. Naturally they soon became a popular choice for streetrodders and over the years many have been built.
This particular car has been extremely well constructed with the finest of components, while still retaining the classic look (with the exception of the lowered front end and wider rims). Built in 1997 with a modern TCI chassis and fitted with a Windsor fiberglass body, it has a Chevrolet Corvette engine and turbo-Hydramatic transmission. Finished in two-tone gray with black fenders, it also has a new LeBaron Bonney leather interior with air conditioning and heating. This well-built street rod features a nitrous-oxide system for added performance boost, which is activated by a switch under the dashboard. It has many original 1933 Ford features such as the authentic wood-grain dash and garnish moldings, correct steering wheel, original steering column and lock, original gauges and floor mounted starter button. A period rearview mirror with integrated wind-up clock is also fitted. A full compliment of modern gauges is neatly attached to a fold-out panel underneath the dash, so when the car is parked they can be hidden away. Other fitments include DeLuxe model cowl lamps, twin tail lamps, accessory fog lights and a period radio.
The current owner purchased this car from a collector in Idaho about two years ago and has driven the car regularly at freeway speeds, commenting that it steers and stops well. A total of just under 5,500 miles has been covered since the build date.
