Chassis No. GRB 31209
Engine No. GRB 31209
Black with coachline, with red leather interior
Engine: four cylinders in line, side valves, 1,861cc; Clutch: single plate; Gearbox: manual four speed; Suspension: front, beam axle, rear live axle, half elliptic leaf springs all round; Brakes: mechanically operated drum. Right hand drive.
The history of this model is recounted in the description for lot …., this being an earlier example dating from 1936. Its registration pre-fix designates the car as being registered new with London County Council.
The Austin 12/4 has been laid up in barn storage for decades, having last been on the road in 1965 and its condition reflects this. There is extensive surface corrosion to the bodywork and the car should be considered in need of complete restoration, albeit under cursory inspection a very complete basis for such work. The original seats are now covered with non-original chequered cloth. FF
