"Motor car comfort at microcar costs!" So ran a typical advertisement for the new KR-200 Messerschmitt which now featured improvements over the KR-175 such as new steering, new lighting, new controls, new panoramic windscreen and a 200cc engine capable of 62mph. An electric starter and electrically operated reverse gear added to the technical specification whilst double dip twin headlamps and flashing indicators improved driving.
At £355/13sh/4d they offered an attractive alternative to four wheel cars, especially as annual road tax was much reduced and, driven carefully, it was possible to achieve 87 miles per gallon. Road testers of the day were praiseworthy, often surprised by the abilities and potential of these delightful machines.
826 DA was first registered on January 21, 1960 and now shows a genuine 14,928 miles from new. The car is offered with all original handbooks and supporting service history. We are informed that it remains completely original apart from two headlight rims (easily obtainable from the Messerschmitt Club) and its colour, having first been sky-blue.
The owner has informed us that the vehicle runs well and has no mechanical problems; in all a geniune example of the classic bubble canopy machine.
