From the time of its introduction in March 1961, the E-Type Jaguar has been regarded as the epitome of the modern sports touring car. A worthy successor to the XK Jaguar, the E-Type evoked the lines and style of the successful D-Type, slimmed and refined to create one of the world's most beautiful cars.
Following the initial production series, Jaguar introduced an updated version of the E-Type in 1964 with the enlarged 4.2 litre six cylinder engine. Although not improving the 145mph top speed, the increased range torque was noticeable. An all synchromesh gearbox and an improved brake servo system were standard to the 4.2 cars. There were also major technical improvements in the clutch and electrical cooling systems. Inside, the interior had better seats, revised dashboard, armrests and a storage compartment on the transmission tunnel.
This is a full matching numbers car that was originally exported by the factory to California; as such it still has the California State J67 tag on the firewall. The car has been fully restored during the past six years to its present fabulous condition and this included repainting the car in the original color scheme of opalescent silver blue. We are told that the body panels are all original to the car and certainly the panel fit looks excellent. The interior has its original headliner and radio console, while the seats and trim have been reupholstered with navy leather. The trunk is all original. The engine has been rebuilt and is all well detailed and the car is described as a good driving example with strong oil pressure. Receipts and invoices confirming all the work are offered with the sale and they amount to some $45,000.
A matching numbers Series 1 Jaguar with covered headlights, the benefit of the 4.2 engine and gearbox and in the orginal color combination is always going to be a desirable machine. This is also a well-presented example and a new keeper will surely enjoy every minute of E-Type ownership.
