Giotto Bizzarrini was no newcomer when he built this car. He left the University of Pisa in 1953 with a degree in engineering and started working for Alfa Romeo. After a spell he went to Ferrari where he built the famous 250 GTO before he started his own business in 1962. In his office, in Livorno, he designed the Iso Grifo for Renzo Rivolta and the 350 GTV-V12 engine for the Lamborghini. In 1966 he started building his own cars and the first were racing versions of the Iso Grifo. From there it was a short step to the Bizzarrini 5300 Strada, in many ways the ideal car with magnificent bodywork designed and made by Carrozzeria Bertone and the undestructable mechanics of a Corvette. Depending on the rear axle ratio, the top speed of the car varied between 225 and 280 km/h.
The GT Strada is a rare automobile as only 149 were produced between 1966 and 1969. The car pictured here is an extremely rare opportunity as it is offered by the first and original owner who bought the car new in 1968. Since then it has been used for 44,000 km only. The car has been well looked after. The exhaust pipes and silencers were replaced but not the manifolds which are slightly leaking. A new clutch and Michelin tyres have been fitted. It was also resprayed a while ago, the finish being of average quality. The interior is original. This is a fine opportunity to buy a one-owner from new, low mileage Bizzarrini in good original condition.
