Launched in September 1967, the DBS was offered with the familiar six-cylinder powerplant that had previously been installed into the DB6. Styled by William Towns, the DBS provided comfortable accommodation for four and, as ever, performance was more than sufficient with a 0-60mph time of just 7.1 seconds and a quoted top speed of 143mph. Indeed contemporary road testers raved about the new car's agility and performance and it was even the choice of Roger Moore in the television series The Persuaders.
Finished in Fiesta red with black leather interior, this fine example was manufactured in 1970 and boasting the highly desirable manual gearbox, it can be regarded as a real driver's car. The current custodian acquired the vehicle in 1998 and since then it has always been garaged and sparingly used, indeed just 5,000 miles have been added thus taking the odometer reading to just 49,100 miles.
Condition throughout is very good, not a concours example by any means but a genuinely sound, dry vehicle that can be relied upon to impress and perform beyond expectation. The older repaint stands up fairly well and no rust is evident although there are a few isolated chips in places. The chrome is original thus some slight pitting can be identified as one would expect, there is also a crack in the rear screen. The interior is sumptuously wholesome and aside from the fitment of new floormats is totally original, the grey headlining is unblemished and the black leather seats are firm yet creased with age. Upon inspection by a Christie's specialist the engine started promptly, showed good oil pressure and ran sweetly. For ease of use an unleaded conversion has been carried out and whilst in current ownership all servicing requirements have been carried out by renowned marque specialists Goldsmith & Young, the last work being carried out earlier this year when the clutch was replaced. Ready to enjoy, this DBS is highly recommended.
