Exceptional Mint State 1856-S Half Eagle
High Date, Small S
$5, 1856-S MS-62 (PCGS). Sharply struck with frosty light yellow gold and hints of reflective mirrored surface in the fields. Slight cameo contrast adds to the aesthetic appeal of this nearly choice example.
High Date, Small S. Date digits are each 2 millimeters in height with top of the 1 just 0.2 mm. from the bust and bottom of 1 almost 0.5 mm. from the border. Small S mintmark with corner of arrow feather over inner left curve of this letter.
The opportunity to examine multiple high quality examples of a single issue, all from a single source, always provides possibilities of discovery. Three different varieties are represented among four coins in the present offering. Prior to certification of this coin, finest certified by PCGS was a single MS-60.
This is one of the most incredible coins in the Central America treasure. A fantastic item which is head and shoulders above the expectations of even the most seasoned specialist. Likely an opportunity that will never be repeated.
