A 19th-Century lacquered-brass compound monocular microscope,
signed on the stand Smith & Beck, 6 Coleman St LONDON No. 404, with rack and pinion coarse focusing, fire-screw adjustment, mechanical stage, the curved limb with mounting for accessories, located on a compass joint, the lower limb with plano-concave mirror, raised on a shaped column and Y-shaped stand, with a quantity of accessories including a bull's-eye condenser, polariser, lieberkuhn, various eyepieces and objectives and other items, in fitted mahogany case with accessory drawer -- 15½in. (39.4cm.) wide, the interior of the lid with unusual trade label for Smith, Beck & Beck showing engravings of medals won 1851 and 1855
