The first circa 1740, the second by P. Whitney, Cork, circa 1765
The first with three-stage cannon barrel, foliate engraved breech and tang, border engraved lock with spurious signature, figured walnut half-stock (repaired) carved with a shell behind the barrel tang, and brass mounts including grotesque mask pommel and pierced dragonesque side-plate (worn, parts replaced), London proof marks, barrelsmith's mark of Michael Bourne; the second with signed border engraved lock, walnut half-stock (repaired) inlaid with silver wire around the barrel tang, and engraved brass mounts (in worn condition)
