Alan Roderick Rough was born on 25th November 1951 and joined Partick Thistle on schoolboy terms in 1966. He was farmed-out to Sighthill Amateurs and signed for the 'Jags as a professional in November 1969. He amassed 51 of his 53 full Scottish International appearances with the Maryhill side before joining Hibernian in November 1982 for (60,000. A geat custodian for club and country, he kept goal for Thistle in their historic 4-1 win over Celtic in the 1971-72 Scottish League Cup. In season 1970-71 he helped his side to the Division 2 Championship and to the Division 1 Championship in season 1975-76. Easily Thistle's most capped player he also made in excess of 400 League appearances for the club. He was voted Scottish 'Player of the Year' in 1981 and 1982 and at the age of 35 he played for Hibernian in their 3-0 defeat by Aberdeen in the 1985-86 Scottish League Cup final. Rough was also a Scottish Youth Internationalist and played for the Under-23 International side on nine occasions.
