Born in Gilmerton, Midlothian on 23rd January 1911, Robert Denholm Baxter joined Middlesbrough in May 1931 from Musslebrough Bruntonians. In season 1938-39 he made three full International appearances for Scotland, against England, Wales and Hungary. During W.W. II he was a guest player for Heart of Midlothian and Hibernian before joining Hearts in 1946. Thereafter, there was a brief spell as player/manager with Leith Athletic before becoming team manager of the Edinburgh speedway team. Baxter also played two wartime Internationals for Scotland.
