    Celtic won the Division 1 Championship this season with 66 points, Rangers being runners-up on goal difference with 61 points.

    William McGonagle was born in Hamilton, Lanarkshire on 30th April 1904 and joined Celtic in 1926 from Duntocher Hibernian. Between 1926 and 1936 he amassed 286 League appearances for Celtic and 39 Scottish Cup appearances scoring a total of eight goals. He was loaned to Dunfermline Athletic in October 1935 and March 1936 before joining Hamilton Academicals in July of 1936. Thereafter, he played for Cheltenham Town before retiring in 1939, becoming an integral part of the foundation of Sunningend F.C. He played for Scotland at full International level on six occasions between 1933 and 1935 and also played for the Scottish League on five occasions
