M.B.E. London Gazette 3.6.1918.
Major Sir Edwin Bolton, Bt., T.D., was born at Carbrook, Stirlingshire in 1858 and was educated at Clifton College and the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st King's Dragoon Guards in 1877, he quickly transferred to the 2nd Dragoons (Royal Scots Greys) and was advanced to Lieutenant in the same year. Bolton was placed on Half-Pay in 1884 but retained links with his military upbringing by way of a Commission in the Militia. Thus in 1888, he was appointed a Major in the 4th (Stirlingshire) Volunteer Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and, in 1901, as a Captain, to the 3rd (Militia) Battalion. Awarded the M.B.E. in 1918, he served as Convener for Stirlingshire from 1919 to 1927 and was created a Baronet in the latter year (London Gazette 1.1.1927 refers). One time Chairman of the Territorial Army Association, Sir Edwin died in 1931.
