This service is closely modelled on a service which Frederick the Great commissioned for Schloss Charlottenburg in 1772. The borders of the present pieces correspond to Frederick The Great's service, but the centres of the plates lack the up-turned baskets of flowers present on both Frederick's service and the double-lipped sauceboat of the present lot. A dessert-plate from Frederick The Great's service, now at Schloss Köpenick, is illustrated by Erich Köllmann and Margarete Jarchow, Berliner Porzellan, Munich, 1987, Vol. II, p. 440, fig. 268, and a dinner-plate, now in the Dr. K.H. Wadsack Collection, is illustrated on p. 444, fig. 279.
