A Berlin Royal plate from the Prince Friedrich of the Netherlands service
Circa 1825, underglaze blue sceptre above stencilled brown eagle over K.P.M. mark, black painter's H (?) mark, Pressnummer 25, impressed // to footrim
The pale-blue ground border painted by Gottfried Wilhelm Völker with a garland of Punica granatum named in black script on the reverse, within a narrow gilt band, the well with a broad gilt band enclosing a band of gilt palmettes and foliage (slight rubbing to well and minute flake to enamels on border)
9½ in. (24.2 cm.) diam.
Given by King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia to his son in law, Prince Friedrich of the Netherlands on the occasion of his marriage to his daughter, Princess Louise, and thence by descent to Marie zu Wied, Princess of the Netherlands and sold by her executors, Sotheby's London, May 1967.
