    Lot Essay

The fine hada resembling 'chirimen', or silk crepe, indicates that this may be the work of the Ko-Aoe School, even though Ko-Aoe smiths usually signed with a tachi mei. There were at least two smiths of that school working in the Kamakura Period and signing Sueyuki, the earlier of whom is said to have been a pupil of Sadatsugu.
