Eileen Gray's earliest sketches for the 'Transat' armchair date from 1924 but the design was not patented until January 13, 1930. The armchair was first featured in the context of Gray's interior schemes for the house E. 1027 at Roquebrune. Other examples were sold through Jean Désert. Two examples were supplied to the Maharaja of Indore. Adam records six known versions from a total production of twelve.
