A black lacquer mother-of-pearl inlaid tray, 17th century of square form with slightly flaring rims, decorated to the interior well with a dignitary seated before a table upon which a meal is served, a young assistant offering further choices, seated beneath an overhanging pine tree within a fenced garden and below the gaze of a full moon, the sides each with a panel of red lacquered woven bamboo motifs, and surrounded by a fret ground of flower motifs within triangular star designs -- 7 1/8in. (18cm.) wide, Japanese box.
