This guan belongs to the group of large blue and white jars and meiping of the 15th-16th centuries, painted with narrative scenes of figures in landscapes and garden settings, which are taken from traditional literature and popular drama. Compare a similar jar from a Japanese collection illustrated in Sekai Toji Zenshu, 1976, vol.14, colour pl.160, p.169 and pp.231 and 232, where other 'windswept' jars are also illustrated, pp.231 and 232.
