The first historic Scotland v England clash represented by the above cap, took place on 27th March 1871 at Raeburn Place in Edinburgh. D. Drew of Glasgow Academicals is listed as one of the twenty who defeated the Auld Enemy that day by 1 goal and 1 try to 1 try.
Drew's only other International appearance - also recorded on the cap - was given against England, this time at Kennington Oval on 6th March 1876, when England emerged victorious by 1 goal and 1 try to nil.
Early Internationals comprised teams of twenty players, lining up as goalkeepers (4), halfbacks (4) and bulldogs (12), amongst which latter category Drew was listed. The standardisation of the "fifteen" was finalised and put into practice in 1877
