His legendary Hollywood career included films such as Double Indemnity (1944), Sunset Boulevard (1950), The Seven Year Itch (1955), Some Like it Hot (1959) and The Apartment (1960), winning him twenty-one Academy Award nominations and six Oscars. With a wide interest in the arts his varied collections included pictures encompassing the major trends on 20th Century art with works by Renoir, Picasso, Balthus, Hockney, Schiele, Botero and Calder. His African Art collection was equally diverse with objects spanning the continent from West Africa to the Congo and from an early Benin bronze plaque to a 20th Century colonial carving by Thomas Ona which we are very pleased to be offering in the following lots.
