Trumpeter Frank George Downing, D.C.M., had served in the Buckinghamshire Hussars for two years when he enlisted in the Imperial Yeomanry on 29.2.1900. He served in South Africa from March 1900 until the beginning of June 1901 and was present in the Wittebergen operations. He had enlisted at Buckingham and was discharged there in July 1901.
