Triads are rare in the context of Kashmiri bronzes and the present piece emanates a particular charm in the unity of the gestures.
The central figure of Shakyamuni is closely related to a figure of Buddha sheltered by Muchalinda from the Pan-Asian Collection, cf. P. Pal, Bronzes of Kashmir, 1975, cat. no 23, p. 94-95. The latter bears an inscription stating that it is 'the pious gift of Narendradharma,' and elements of the inscription on the present piece appear to correspond.
