Markus Antokolski (1843-1902) was one of the most famous sculptor in Russia at the turn of the century. He is known for his figures of Ivan the Terrible Peter the great, Christ and Mephistopheles among others. His work is represented in the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg and the Tret'iakov Gallery in Moscow. A marble version of this figure is in the State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg.
