Lot Essay

The attribution to Georg Petel is a convincing one, based upon the overwhelming similarities evident between the present lot and a carved wooden standing putto in the Wrttembergisches Landesmuseum, also convincingly attributed to Petel. For an illustration of this latter figure see K. Feuchtmayr and A. Schdler, Georg Petel 1601/2-1634, Berlin, 1973, number 15, figs. 59-62.
