A CARVED IVORY BALUSTER VASE

Well carved in deep relief on two sides with a gathering of immortals in a mountain retreat set with pavilions, the two scenes separated on the narrow sides by rocks and pine trees, all between a band of petal lappets below and a leaf border above, the neck carved on one side with a vignette of Shoulao and the Eight Immortals and on the reverse with a a group of scholars studying a scroll, surrounded by lotus meander interrupted by the pair of buddhistic lion handles, with bands of key fret at the mouth and foot rims
