The stylised, rounded nose of the horse of St Martin is comparable to a carved wood relief depicting the high priest and soldiers from a crucifixion group by Adriaan van Wesel. This horses heads of this group are similar in their rounded squarish shape to that of the present lot. Cf. F. Halsema Kubes et al. Adriaen van Wesel, Rijksmuseum, pp.104-105, no. 14.
