A Charles II plain circular dish
London, 1672, maker's mark FL? with bird beneath probably for Francis Leake
Plain circular and with reeded amd moulded rim, the centre engraved with a coat of arms within foliate scroll mantling, marked border
10¼in. (26cm.) diam.
The arms are those of Dormer for Robert Dormer of Rousham House and Ascott, co. Oxford and Dorton, co. Buckingham. He succeeded to the estates on the death of his father in 1649. He married as his second wife Anne, daughter of Sir Charles Cotterell, the Master of Ceremonies. On Robert Dormer's death the estates passed to his second son General James Dormer, and on his death, in 1741, to his maternal cousin Sir Clement Cottrell.
