A Chinese painted pottery horse and groom
the horse standing on a shaped base with its front foreleg raised and head inclined slightly to the left with nostrils flaring and mouth open, the beast wearing a saddle and elaborate saddle cloth decorated with swirling motifs, the moustacheod groom standing wearing a long tunic and peaked cap, his arms held up before him, traces of green, red, black and white pigments remaining -- the horse 17in. (43.8cm.) high, Tang Dynasty, (some restoration and old wear).
Thermoluminescence Test Numbers C198z17 and C198z21 are consistent with the dating of this lot. (2)
