    A CHINESE POLYCHROME AND GOLD LACQUER LARGE EIGHT-LEAF THRONE SCREEN
    Late 18th early 19th Century
    Formed in sections, the main part as eight vertical panels variously painted in colours and delicately gilt on the front with outdoor and domestic scenes including ladies, gentlemen and children at scholarly and affectionate pursuits, the central panels flanked at the top by circular landscape panels and at the bottom by octafoil floral panels, the reverses painted more simply with scattered foliage, the heavy angled base similarly decorated with landscapes above flowers on the shaped foot, the sides and top applied with elaborate pierced friezes, minor old damage and refinishing to lacquer
    each panel 86 in. (218 cm.) high; overall height of the complete screen approx. 116 in. (295 cm.)
