A CONTINENTAL SILVER INKSTAND, probably German, late 19th Century, shaped rectangular, the broad base pierced with spiralling and scrolling foliage, the corners applied with caryatid, the short sides chased with foliate scrolls, the hinged cover chased with reclining, Classically attired, maiden picking fruit from a branch, flanked by two putti, with grotesque mask thumbpiece, opening to reveal frame inset with silver covered porcelain pot, another cover (pot lacking), and small cylindrical covered compartment--7½in. (19cm.) long, the silver 17.5 oz.
