Edwin Smith (1810-1889), sculptor and wax modeller, was born in Sheffield and joined the Royal Academy Schools in 1836.
Lord John Russell, 1st Earl Russell (1792-1878) was a Whig politician who served twice as prime minister and was the third son of 6th Duke of Bedford. He was responsible with Lord Althorp for guiding the Reform Bill through the Commons. He first took office as Prime Minister in 1846.
