    Lot Essay

Tables with large faience tray tops were highly prized in Scandinavia throughout the 18th Century, and various manufatories made tops specially for this purpose, which were among their most expensive products. The present table has the unusual feature of an earlier faience top which was imported from Rouen. The painted decoration of the base, which has now been revealed, was chosen to match the colours of the top.
