A closely related base is illustrated in Aeldre Nordisk Architektur, vol. XI (Mobler fra Dansk Vestindien), n.d., p. 54.
The table, with scrolled tripod trusses and serpentined 'claw', relates to a 'Claw Table' pattern in William Ince and John Mayhew's Universal System of Household Furniture, 1762 (pl. XIII).
The same patterned top, serpentined as a hollow-sided octagon with indented corners, features on a table sold from the Prescott Collection, Christie's New York, 31 January 1981, lot 334.
