Louise Abbema (1858-1927) was Sarah Bernhardt's companion for 50 years. She was a well known artist and painted the portrait of Mme. Duvelleroy. She designed at least two other fans, Secours a la Martinique, see Lot 31, and another celebrating the Russian State Visit to Paris 1893. She also painted an autograph fan in 1901 for her Godchild, Andree, exhibited L'Eventail, Miroir de la Belle Epoque, Palais Galliera 1985, cat. no. 173
