The front section bezel-set with two coins, a Cromwell gold Pattern Broad, 1656, and a Cromwell shilling, 1658, each in a circular-cut diamond surround with triangular-cut diamond spacers, to the curb-link chain with diamond detail, mounted in platinum and 18K gold, 40.0 cm.

The Broad (20 Shillings) 1656, was the only gold coin issued by Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of England 1649-1658. The coin was designed by Thomas Simon and struck by Pierre Blondeau on his advanced minting press.
