The rectangular top with fluted cornice and surmounted by the figure of a classical woman seated on a cushion and reading a book, with relief cast vase mounts issuing floral bouquets to each side, on rectangular base with berried laurel leaf gallery and engine-milled bun feet, the white enamel Arabic dial signed Ridel à Paris with pierced and engraved gilt-metal criss-cross hands, the dial maker's signature Coteau below VI, the twin barrel movement with silk suspension and countwheel strike on bell
