Arent Sikkes Haakma was born in 1702 in Leeuwarden. He succeeded his father who maintained the clocks of the Nieuwe Toren in Leeuwarden, he remained in this function till 1760. Until 1755 he closely collaborated with his brother Theunis Sikkes Haakma (1709-1785). They worked together under the name A & T Haakma, based in the Koningsstraat, Leeuwarden. With regard to the number of longcase clocks produced there, Leeuwarden was one of the most important centres of Friesland.
