The coat of arms on the left side is from the Banninck family and the coat of arms on the right side of the Valckenier family. Both families were well-known in Amsterdam in the 16th, 17th and 18th Century. Unfortunately a search to where the two families exactly connect remained unsuccesfull up till now.
The Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen owns a painted Hindelooper cupboard dating from 1713 illustrated in S.J. van der Molen, De Hindelooper woonkultuur, Bolsward, 1967, Afb. 3 and 4, of 'normal' size which relates in architectural outline to the present lot.
