    A fine early 19th-Century small full size single cylinder overcrank engine
    with cylinder approximately 2in. bore x 3in. stroke, truncated 'D' valve, inlet manifold with main stop and governor butterfly valves, exhaust pipe, cylinder head lubricator, studded stuffing boxes, the crankshaft mounted in trunnions with split brasses on pierced frames raised on the cylinder casting and incorporating roller type crosshead guides barrelled connecting rod with gibbed and cottered bearings, faceted crank and valve eccentric. Further details include outboard main bearing supported by a single tapered column, gear driven Watt governor and linkage, the cylinder mounted on a metal base raised on four turned tapered columns, cast bed with square headed bolts and wood base, display base with concealed electric motor and round belt drive to the grooved spoked flywheel, the whole unpainted, brass plate engraved 'Single Cylinder Steam Engine for driving small machinery Leytonstone, London 1842' --30½ x 17in. (77.5 x 43.2cm.). Wood framed glazed cover.
