D.C.M. London Gazette 27.9.1901.
Private C. Horsley, D.C.M., was decorated for his gallantry at the Battle of Paardeberg.
General Kelly-Kenny recommended Horsley in his Despatch to Lord Roberts dated 3.3.1900:
'Lt. Col. Lloyd has also brought to notice the conduct of ... 4742 Pte. C. Horsley who when Captain Greenwood was wounded a few yards from the river, went to his assistance under a very heavy fire and remained with him the rest of the day, heavy fire continuing at very close range. Pte. Horsley was wounded in two places while attending Captain Greenwood. I trust your Lordship will recommend Pte. Horsley for the medal for Distinguished Conduct in the field' (War Office records refer).
