Male and female, each with the coiffure in four lobes with spherical topknot, triple scarification marks to each cheek and forehead, the female with large breasts, a girdle carved in relief about the waist, hatched pubic area, the male wearing band of striped beads about the waist, each wearing brass ornament about one wrist, on circular bases, dark glossy patinas with encrusted camwood powder

Lot Essay

Cf. Fagg, 1982, pp. 81-82, for a similar pair probably by the same hand. Drewal (1980, fig. 108) attributes a similar ibeji figure to the Agbegi compound in Ijomu and suggests that it might be the work of either Ogunremi (d. 1933) or Onadokun (d.1930).
