COMET was a very successful clipper ship, built by William H. Webb, at New York, and launched July 10, 1851. Her length on deck was 229 feet. She was strongly built, her frames being diagonally strapped with iron ties. Her cabins were large and elegantly furnished; she provided toilets, smoking and bathrooms as well as a fine library. COMET was a particularly handsome ship in every way and was one of the fastest sailors and also one of the most successful sailing ships ever launched from any shipyard.
Please see the catalog note on Lot 34 for information on the builder.
