The current brush pot is a very fine example of a scholarly piece imbued with auspicious symbols. Bamboo and pine are two of the Three Friends of Winter, Suihan sanyou. Bamboo represents resiliance and adaptability while pine alludes to longevity. The tranquil scene is typical of the subjects depicted on scholarly subjects, transporting the owner to an idyllic mindscape.
