The design for this teapot is illustrated in American Silverplate, Dorothy and Ivan Rainwater, 1988, p. 109. The designer George Gill incorporated an eclectic mix of styles into his works. The original price of a six piece tea and coffee service was $60.00 in 1877. A silver-plated soup tureen currently in the Dallas Museum of Art, which matches this tea service in form and style is shown in Charles Venable, Silver in America, 1994, fig. 6.57.
